Financial freedom is the ultimate goal that many of us strive towards. To be able to afford the lifestyle that we want without having to sacrifice our time and our savings.
The journey to financial freedom is a long one. It’s the reason we went to school and why we sat through an extra four or five years of university, so we could get a degree that would give us the best chances of earning a high salary to be able to live comfortably and support our families.
By achieving financial freedom, you’ll be able to :
- Pay off any debts or loans that you have
- Not have to worry about money every day
- Travel more
- Enjoy life more
- Spend more time with your loved ones
- Have more time for your hobbies and passions
One of the best benefits of achieving financial freedom is that you get to spend more time doing what you love. You won’t be stressed about keeping a roof over your head, or how much your electricity bill will be for the month. Instead, you can enjoy living in the moment. You can travel more, read more, sleep more and spend more time with family.

Have the courage to try new experiences
Giving yourself a plan to save more money every week with the job you have now is a great way to steadily increase your savings, but there’s only so much that you can put away. Instead, have the courage to branch out in different directions and try out new methods of making money.
To chase your dreams, you have to have courage. The courage to commit to yourself without fear of failure and the courage to persevere through hardships.
A lot of the time, a high risk means a high return. The riskier the path, the more profit you will possibly gain from it.
Take starting a blog for example, you can choose to have a free plan or a paid plan. You can choose a free theme or pay for one. With a free blog, your domain might look unprofessional and your theme will probably limit you in terms of customisation. Now if you wanted to make money with your blog, this might turn away any readers and potential subscribers.
Any successful business requires a large investment at the beginning. Whether this is time or money, only those who have the courage to start and determination to persevere have the chance for success.
Improve yourself to find the courage
If there’s one thing that we all can work on, it’s improving ourselves. We can strive to become a better friend, a better student, a better son/daughter, a better leader and overall, a better person.
It’s so easy to say “I want to be a nicer person” or “I want to be a better listener”, but it’s a lot harder to say “I will be a nicer person” or “I will be a better listener”. This is because we are so afraid to make a commitment to ourselves. We can commit to our studies, to our work, to our friends, but it’s so hard to commit to ourselves.
Ask yourself, when was the last time you had an idea and didn’t follow through because you were afraid of failure? Or you told yourself that you probably wouldn’t be successful so you shouldn’t even try?
I’ll be honest with you, I was really terrified of starting this blog. I was afraid that I would put so much time and money into it but receive nothing in return. This was because I was so focused on the numbers and other bloggers’ success stories that I never stopped to think about the potential non-monetary rewards.
But once I actually started my blog, those worries faded away. I was so proud of myself for taking that first step, for taking the risk, and I was so excited to be in complete control of a website that belonged to me. I was that much closer to achieving financial freedom.

Start working towards financial freedom
The answer, a combination of two factors: saving more money and earning more money.
Save More Money
Being able to control your spending to save more money is a lifestyle that you need to adopt. It’s so easy to be swayed and before you know it, you’ll be wondering where your income from the month has gone. Even if you earn a six-figure income, without the right frugal mindset, that money will still disappear faster than you can blink.
There are so many ways that you can start saving money now, and it all starts by learning to live frugally. Set saving goals for yourself to achieve during the year and set up a savings account that is strictly only increasing, that is, never take money out of your savings account unless it’s an absolute emergency.

Earn More Money
Then, of course, to be financially comfortable, you need to have a steady (or growing) source of income. Aside from promotions and changing jobs to increase your income, side hustling is a great way to earn a second income and gain a wealth of experience along the way.
Nowadays, there are so many different options for side hustling out there. Some of the best are:
- Ridesharing (e.g. Uber, Lyft)
- Starting a blog
- Tutoring
- Online freelancing
- Renting your house (e.g. Airbnb, HomeAway)
- Selling digital products
- Selling physical products (e.g. on eBay or Etsy)
If you can find a side hustle that works for you, keep building on it so that your income and savings can increase exponentially. Start with a few different avenues, e.g. online surveys, mystery shopping, blogging, and once you find success in one, you can focus all of your attention on it.
If you’re looking for a more traditional pay-by-the-hour side hustle, then private tutoring is your best bet at earning a higher hourly rate. Not only do you get to set your own pay rate, but you also get to dictate how many hours you work per week and be your own boss. This offers up a level of freedom that a job in retail or hospitality can’t provide. Read more about how you could be earning $50/hr as a private tutor!
Work online from home
With the internet at your fingertips, there are countless ways that you can earn an income online, using your laptop and without ever having to leave the comfort of your own home. Some of these possibilities include:
- Blogging
- Freelancing
- Becoming a virtual assistant
- Starting your own website
- Selling products
All of these are perfectly viable options, but if you’re serious about making a full-time income online, then passive income should be the goal that you’re working towards.
Passive income is income that is earned with minimal daily effort on your part. Essentially, it means that you could be earning money in your sleep. Doesn’t that sound amazing?
If this sounds that something that you want to achieve, then you need to try your hand at blogging.
Blogging is one of the most rewarding side hustles that I have ever tried. Aside from being able to earn a small income that’s slowly growing, I also get to have complete control over my own website. For me, it’s honestly a huge eye-opener as to how the internet works.
Whether you’re someone who enjoys creating and being creative or someone who wants to live a stress-free life off passive income, blogging is something that you should definitely try out. It’s something that you can work on in your spare time and you never know, one day it might become your full-time job.
Blogging is so amazing and rewarding because it allows you to:
- Expand on your creativity and express yourself any way you want
- Write about any topic that you’re passionate about (finance, lifestyle, student life)
- Earn a small income (or possible a full-time income)
- Earn PASSIVE income while you sleep
- Learn the basics of HTML and CSS to help you better understand websites
- Develop skills and knowledge that can be beneficial to any workplace
Is this really possible?
You might be a little sceptical, which is perfectly understandable since blogging is more of a long term commitment and requires time to see results. But I can promise that it’s 100% worth it. I won’t lie to you though, it requires a lot of time and effort, and it can be really easy to be disheartened if you don’t see results immediately.
With a retail or tutoring job, you can actually see your monetary rewards from the very first moment you start. With a blog, however, you need to put in some time setting up your blog and writing a few blog posts, but as your traffic starts to take off, you’ll find that all your efforts will have been worth it.
