Sometimes working a Christmas casual job is more tiring than a full-time job.
During the Christmas season, customers rush to complete their Christmas shopping and stores open with extended hours to accommodate for this influx of customers. When this happens, stores hire a large number of casuals to battle the extra demand. This is where I come in.
I was hired as a Christmas casual two weeks ago and began officially working last Tuesday. I have now been working for a full week and it’s much more tiring than I expected. I’ve worked two different jobs previously, but none with as many hours as this current job. Just this week, I’ve worked over 50 hours, which is more than the average full-time job requires.
Honestly, when I graduated high school, I expected to spend my holidays relaxing, working a few days here and there to earn some money before university starts. I certainly did not expect to work this much and this often. Nowadays, I usually find that my eyes begin to close at 9pm and it’s a struggle to stay awake.
While I know that I’ll get back what I put in, I’ll be much happier when the Christmas period is over and my hours aren’t as hectic as they are now. I do want to spend some more time lounging around the house, reading and working on my blog.
